Technical Detail

Gallery Finish (GF)

Application: Architectural integration and wireless control deployments.

The Gallery Finish range uses a glass fibre reinforced composite structure - dimensionally stable, electrically insulating, and RF transparent throughout. A satin industrial clearcoat is applied and cured over a 48-hour window before final inspection, providing a durable architectural-grade surface with consistent sheen and hardness across the palette.

  • RF transparent - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee
  • Electrically insulating (dielectric performance)
  • Thermal stability up to approximately 70°C
  • Reduced creep and long-term deformation
  • Satin clearcoat - durable, architectural-grade surface finish
  • Available in Arctic (white), Luna (mid-grey), Obsidian (black)

Core Finish (CF)

Application: High-use commercial and mechanically demanding environments.

The Core Finish range uses a carbon fibre reinforced composite structure. The raw composite surface is left uncoated - the matte texture and structural fibre pattern are properties of the material itself, providing abrasion resistance without an applied finish layer.

  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • Minimal flex under load
  • Thermal stability up to approximately 70°C
  • Passive EMI damping characteristics
  • Matte, abrasion-resistant raw composite surface
  • Available in Anthracite

ControlFix Material System

Application: In-wall mounting of EU square control panels in finished surfaces.

ControlFix is manufactured from an engineering polymer selected for dimensional stability, impact resistance, and suitability for permanent in-wall installation. The material is white as standard, with an orange variant available for dealer supply and on-site identification.

  • Dimensionally stable under normal installation conditions
  • Impact resistant - suited to on-site handling and installation
  • Electrically insulating - suitable for SELV control panel mounting
  • Thermal stability up to approximately 70°C
  • Not suitable for mains voltage applications

Hardware & Assembly

Integrated brass threads are installed into the composite structure - M3 for foot and assembly fixings, M3.5 for panel fixings on standard Fit products. 6-32 UNC threads are available by arrangement for US market panel variants. The brass-to-composite interface is designed for controlled torque using hand tools, and rated for repeat removal and reinstallation across the full product lifecycle without degradation of thread engagement.

ControlFix uses Fin-Lok press-fit brass inserts - M3.5 metric standard, installed from the rear of the adapter. The hole geometry forward of the thread prevents pull-through from the front face regardless of panel screw torque. 6-32 UNC available by arrangement for US market variants.

Steel fixing screws are supplied for panel installation. Isolation feet in rubber or TPU provide surface protection, friction stability, and vibration damping on hard worktop surfaces.

ControlBase products incorporate a permanently bonded internal steel ballast plate. This provides a low centre of gravity for stability under single-handed panel interaction.

Keystone & Modular Interfaces

ControlBase products include one, two, or three keystone positions depending on the model. The interface geometry is designed to suit the majority of commercially available keystone inserts - RJ45 Cat6, RJ11 Cat3, 2.1mm DC socket, cable passthrough grommets, and material-matched blanks. Variation in retention force and insert geometry across manufacturers is expected and accommodated. Refer to individual product listings for included accessories.

Keystone insert depth varies across manufacturers and insert types. Customers should confirm the depth of their panel and the depth of their intended keystone insert before ordering - deeper inserts may not be physically compatible with all panel configurations. For guidance contact studio@730design.au.

Selected ControlBase products are available with a Neutrik D-type backplane in place of the keystone position - compatible with the full range of Neutrik D-type inserts. D-type backplane depth 10mm - suitable for current specification inserts.

Keystone accessories are available by enquiry at studio@730design.au.

Panel Compatibility

Brackets are designed to manufacturer-published specifications for each supported panel. Fixing centres, face dimensions, corner radii, and mounting depth are taken from published data and verified against physical samples where available. Fitment is dependent on third-party production tolerances - variations between panel revisions or regional variants may affect fit. Verification is recommended for critical alignment applications or panels outside the confirmed compatibility list.

Dimensional Tolerances

±1mm from stated dimensions or drawings applies across:

  • Overall geometry
  • Fixing positions
  • Interface alignment
  • Assembly relationships

Minor surface variation is a characteristic of fibre-reinforced composite manufacture and falls within the stated tolerance. For applications requiring tighter tolerances or verified panel compatibility, contact us prior to specification.

Electrical Scope

ControlBase and ControlSurface are electrically insulating, non-conductive structures suitable for use with low-voltage control, data, and power systems including PoE and PoE+. The keystone backplane supports Cat6 and DC passthrough interfaces rated to standard keystone insert specifications. Products are not rated for mains voltage or high-voltage switching. For use with SELV systems only.

Installation & Use

  • ControlBase - free-standing on any flat surface. No fixing to substrate required
  • ControlSurface - fixed to substrate via base fixing points. Suitable for joinery, stone, and timber surfaces
  • ControlFix - front face insertion into a standard 70mm round cutout. No cavity access required
  • Isolation feet provide stability, surface protection, and minor positional adjustment on uneven surfaces
  • ControlSurface products are designed for direct and repeated user interaction - durable composite surface throughout

Modification & Safety Notice

Products are supplied as finished components.

  • Use appropriate PPE (eye and respiratory protection) if cutting, drilling, or sanding
  • Fibre-reinforced composite materials may produce fine particulates when machined - treat as fine composite dust
  • Structural performance may be compromised by modification - avoid damage to threaded interfaces and load-bearing sections
  • Embedded brass interfaces should not be forcibly removed or overloaded

730design accepts no responsibility for modified products.

Production

All products are made to order in our Melbourne studio. Each unit is individually inspected before dispatch. Gallery Finish variants undergo a 48-hour clearcoat curing window prior to final inspection and packaging. Minor surface variation within the stated tolerance is a characteristic of the material and process.
