Solving Connectivity Gaps: The ControlBase DC Jack

Not every ControlBase installation needs a full network connection. Sometimes what's needed is simpler: power.

Why some panels don't need the network

For PoE-based interfaces on ControlBase, demonstration means a networked setup - a laptop, a switch, a Cat6 run. The network carries both power and data, and that's part of the demo.

Dynalite panels work differently. Configuration is typically stored locally on the panel's onboard communication module - backlight colours, screen content, and button behaviour are all driven by the panel itself, not fetched from the network in real time. Sometimes it's useful to show the panel standalone on its ControlBase mount, without a live DyNet bus behind it. That situation doesn't need a network connection. It needs power.

A gap in the standard keystone options

ControlBase already supported keystone positions for RJ45, RJ11, and cable grommets - flexible connectivity for a range of installation contexts. What wasn't readily available was a clean way to deliver standalone DC power at the same backplane position.

A keystone insert for DC power

The keystone insert with 2.1mm DC socket sits in any standard ControlBase keystone position, taking a standard power supply or external battery pack, centre positive. Once connected, the panel powers up, the backlight comes on, the screen runs its content, without any network connection at all.

Using the second keystone position on brackets with two positions, a cable grommet or RJ11 passthrough allows the DyNet bus to be daisy-chained to additional panels from the same power source, if that suits the demonstration.

Rated for SELV/Class 2 applications only - mains voltage must not be connected to this product under any circumstances.

Matched to the range

The insert is available in Arctic White, Luna Grey, Obsidian Black, Anthracite Black, and Graphite Grey, matched to the same finish palette used across ControlBase and ControlBase Stage, so it sits flush and consistent with the bracket.
